Pregnancy Checking

This week the farm crew has been busy pregnancy checking our mother cows. We have our vet come and check to see which mothers have been successfully bred and approximately when they will calve. We then sort the pregnant mother cows based on when they will calve before we move them back out to pasture. This helps us keep a closer eye on them when they are ready to calve.

Any mothers that are not bred are moved to the next calving group (i.e., if they were supposed to calve in the fall, we will have them join the following spring calving group of mother cows). We shoot to have 80-90% of the group bred each breeding cycle. This group was 88% bred!
