Farm to School Updates

The last few years we have had the pleasure of meeting school culinary professionals across the state who have dedicated themselves to the pursuit of feeding their communities the healthiest meals possible each and every day. Researching fun new ways to serve common ingredients, educating their staff on these new recipes, and building an atmosphere of excitement around each and every tray of lunch.

Last week we attended the Edgewood Wellness Family Event (Richland Bean Blossom Schools) in Ellettsville. This was a community event for families to learn more about all of the services and foods offered to students, as well as clubs and extra curriculars offered. We interacted with families all night- it was a great event!

As of today, there are dozens of school corporations across the state that are serving Fischer Farms meats to their students and staff. Buying from their distributor or participating in a program called Local Food for Schools (LFS) to receive a certain amount of no cost meat and produce for the school year. Schools must meet certain demographic requirements and purchase from one of two participating distributors.

There is a wealth of information about LFS on the Indiana Grown for Schools website.

We have had the chance to visit many of these schools to meet the culinary staff, thank them for what they are doing, and see students enjoy lunch together. Being a visible part of their farm to school outreach!

Below are a few photos of some of the most recent foods and events we have been a part of!
